Vintage Vixen

(lolz, that title is a joke).

I wore this beautiful dress today that I was so excited to take pictures for.  But as soon as I came home, one thing led to another (you know, cooking, picking up, putting Dev to bed), and by the time I was ready to take a picture, I look in the mirror and the dress is all jacked up and wrinkled.  Learned myself a lesson there....

So as disappointing as that was, I'll have to debut it another day, which will be soon anyway.  For now, I'll show you my favorite, real vintage dress that I bragged about in a previous post.  I absolutely love it!

vintage dress- thrifted/sidewalk sale for Venus on the Half Shell
yellow belt: thrifted, ($2)
steve madden shoes- macys, ($36)

Excuse my nails in the above picture.  Unacceptable, I know.  Although, hopefully you didn't even notice them until I pointed them out.  Anyhow, this dress by itself may seem very old fashioned looking.  I imagine that a lot of people would be very hesitant to wear this dress, including me a year or so ago.  But, I felt I did a good job of modernizing this dress with the appropriate shoes.  A lot of shoes could have worked, but I really loved the way these shoes played out.  Shoes can be such a vital part of changing an outfit.  And how perfect was that yellow belt that I had thrown on?  Back to the dress, I love how the little tie comes down in the front.  And the yellow and white stripes!  I truly love this dress and am so thankful I found it, and that it fit me.

The day I got this dress, I actually got a ton of vintage stuff, a lot of which you will hopefully see soon.

I hope you had a happy Tuesday!  At least today wasn't Monday :)

Indecisive

Sometimes I get so excited to wear something, but I can't make up my mind about which to wear or how to wear it, so I'll take two shoes to work, or two cardigans, or whatever.  I do what I have to do.  I can't believe I'm that indecisive sometimes about clothing.  Sad, but true.

In this case, I was in looove with this vintage shirt, but also excited for the outfit underneath it.  To solve my problem, I wore the shirt as a jacket for when I went outside, and threw on my scarf when I took off the jacket for the outfit underneath.

 vintage striped shirt: thrifted, ($16)
pink tank: old navy ($4)
blue polka dot cardi: f21 ($16)
scarf: f21 ($8)
khaki pants: f21 ($26)
me too loafers: thrifted, ($8)

So there ya have it, those were my two looks for yesterday.  Have a happy Wednesday!  Only two more days till the weekend.

What it is?

I accidentally never uploaded last Friday, or maybe Thursday(?)'s outfits.  So after I took pics of today's, I uploaded them and saw I never shared one of my proudest outfits.  It's nothing special, but I was just really pleased the way it all turned out- from me finding a skirt I was looking for, to my make-up, to the mixture of colors and accessories.  It's rare that I love how I have my accessories- I feel like I need more.  But anyway, here they are:

It's rare that I find accessories that I am head over heels for, but this belt is one of them.  I was so excited when I found it.

black cardi: old, old f21 ($?)
coral/red shirt: f21 ($14)
tiger skirt: thrifted, ($1.95, I was originally looking for leopard)
belt: thrifted/vintage ($3)
tights: cvs ?
steve madden shoes- ebay, ($36- not including shipping)
earrings: f21 ($3)
watch: asos, gifted ($40)

Wednesday:

I just wanted you to see the pattern, basically seagreen and yellow blocks of color.  If you click on it, you can probably zoom even more.
 purple cardi: f21 ($8)
orange silk blouse: vintage/thrifted, ($4)
gap jeans: thrifted, ($14)
report black booties: ross, ($19)

I just realized, I don't really note when things I'm wearing are vintage.  So from now on, I'm going to.  Especially because I will be selling vintage clothes, and I feel that people automatically think, 'I don't think I'll like vintage, I'm not that type of person,'  but people have no idea how cute cuts, nice patterns, and better quality is what vintage clothes offer.  And best of all, you will be able to pull it off and somehow modernize the outfit.  Trust me, I could find you something you'd like.

p.s.  Wow, I look super blonde in these pics...for those who don't know, I loved dark hair (and with passion)...I slowly continued getting more and more blonde highlights, along with low-lights and medium brown under layer, and I am happy with it.

Pulled Over

Whoop whoop!  So, I got pulled over by the world's biggest douchebag cop.  He spent 30 minutes bitching me out, trying to scare me, and basically harassing me and making me wait for no reason.  All because I had ice/snow on half of the back of my windshield- $110 ticket.  UUGHH.  Anyway, let's get to the good stuff.

Vintage

black new york & comp cardigan: gab. bros ($6)
vintage dress (hemmed): thrifted, ($6)
hue tights- macys ($4)
steve madden shoes- ebay ($36- usually $80!)

(Sorry guys, that there's barely any space between the pics.  It's things like the editing on blogger that I really don't like...I sometimes wonder about switching to tumblr.  Thoughts?)

Love my little man.  Making him laugh is what I look forward to daily.  Nothing makes me happier!

About the dress, isn't it amazing?  I started getting serious about vintage and thrifting when I saw a bloggers amazingly beautiful vintage dress.  I was like, I gotta find something like that! I have had several finds that I love.  And I am impatient with shopping and sometimes even get overwhelmed.  But looking through all the clothes is soothing or something.  I really do enjoy the hunt, I didn't think I would.  Buuuuttttt anyway, I hope you had a happy Monday :)

Oh!

I have been asked several times about where I shop and how I get my hair to be volumonous.  I'm gonna tell you about where I shop now, and my hair routine later this week, so check back!

Where I shop:
- Goodwill
- Mustard Seed
- Value Village
- Forever 21
- H&M
- Salvation Army
ebay & etsy

Yup, I mostly shop at thrift stores these day.  I think I will do a post about going thrifting, for those interested.  Stay tuned, it's gonna be a good week for SpottieOtties :)

Flava Fav

We had to "dress up" for work today, and I couldn't help but throw on my favorite thrifting find and possibly favorite item in my closet, my vintage vest.  I wish you could see the details of the color better than my pictures portray.  But anyway, let's get to it.

This is how I looked while walking from the paring garage to the building:

This is what I looked like during lunch, when I was out and about:

This is what I looked like while at work:

You still can't see the aqua/blue that I wish you could see in the vest:
 vintage vest: "thrifted", ($12)
white f21 button up: thrifted, ($4)
f21 dress pants: thrifted, ($9)
vintage liz claiborne hat: thrifted, ($5)

All my vintage made me feel so classic.  I loved it!

And bonus goodies:
My little man loves watching me take the pictures for some reason.  He then kept grabbing at the hat.  When I put it on him he looked up and said "HI!"

Speaking of little man, I am going to go read to him before bed.  Goodnight!

Great News!

If any of you already peaked at my blog today, you may have noticed the extra page that says, "Personal Style Consulting," which is one of my two of announcements, but keep reading!!

Personal Style Consulting-
I'm going to be brief since it will all be under that part of the page.  But, I have helped people work with what they have in their closet by putting outfits together with them, organizing their closet, and done some personal shopping.  First it was a trial/error thing, and I decided to post my services on Craigslist- as you all know, the thing I do best is find clothes for cheap, so that was probably the most enticing part and the reason why I got responses.  People automatically think, "I would love this, but there's no way I can afford it!" and because I love it soooo much, I have no problem making it possible for that person.

Long story short, between working with a client, no longer working from home and starting a new job (with a long commute), caring for a baby, maintaining a blog AND doing this on the side, I got pretty nervous that I was overdoing it.  But then when I mustered up energy to venture out and find some pieces for my client, I can't even tell you the joy I felt!  You know the feeling of giving someone a gift you know they'll love? It's that times a million, PLUS the hunt, and more importantly, the fact I am helping someone.  Explaining why this shoe would go with that shirt hanging in that persons closet, always come so natural and I absolutely love it.  Moral of story: Don't hesitate to ask me for help, even if you live elsewhere.  I will work with your budget!

Spot On Vintage-
I'd like to also announce the grand opening of Spot On Vintage (at SpottieOtties) on Etsy!!  I have been toying with the idea of a vintage store on etsy with knick knacks. But seeing as how I find cute vintage items that anyone can work with and look like today's trends (that means you, person who's thinking 'yeah right, I would never wear vintage.'), and how my blog has a lot of fashion related posts, a vintage store is in order.

Long story short again, the shop is going to have clothing items, shoes, accessories like belts, purses, jewelry, and little things for around your home.  A lot of these vintage stores you find are overpriced, and I am going to be fair with my prices.  I am also going to alter/tailor some of the items for a more up to date look.  For example, I keep finding a lot of awesome vintage skirts made of good material and with GREAT colors, but they could use a little trim and they would be perfect!!  Lastly, I am going to post tips and ideas on what to pair the item with (that's how I know something will work for you, even if you may doubt it at first).  I already have a lot, it just takes time to take pictures and post them!
p.s. if I find over time that it isn't really a success, then I will probably stop.

So that's all for now folks!  I'm super excited for these new ventures, and I will keep you updated!
