Vintage Vixen

(lolz, that title is a joke).

I wore this beautiful dress today that I was so excited to take pictures for.  But as soon as I came home, one thing led to another (you know, cooking, picking up, putting Dev to bed), and by the time I was ready to take a picture, I look in the mirror and the dress is all jacked up and wrinkled.  Learned myself a lesson there....

So as disappointing as that was, I'll have to debut it another day, which will be soon anyway.  For now, I'll show you my favorite, real vintage dress that I bragged about in a previous post.  I absolutely love it!

vintage dress- thrifted/sidewalk sale for Venus on the Half Shell
yellow belt: thrifted, ($2)
steve madden shoes- macys, ($36)

Excuse my nails in the above picture.  Unacceptable, I know.  Although, hopefully you didn't even notice them until I pointed them out.  Anyhow, this dress by itself may seem very old fashioned looking.  I imagine that a lot of people would be very hesitant to wear this dress, including me a year or so ago.  But, I felt I did a good job of modernizing this dress with the appropriate shoes.  A lot of shoes could have worked, but I really loved the way these shoes played out.  Shoes can be such a vital part of changing an outfit.  And how perfect was that yellow belt that I had thrown on?  Back to the dress, I love how the little tie comes down in the front.  And the yellow and white stripes!  I truly love this dress and am so thankful I found it, and that it fit me.

The day I got this dress, I actually got a ton of vintage stuff, a lot of which you will hopefully see soon.

I hope you had a happy Tuesday!  At least today wasn't Monday :)

Products

As promised, I want to go over some recent products that I have bought and tried out.  First off, my favorite store is CVS.  I love trying beauty products.  Whether it's a shampoo, face wash, or make up, I can't wait to get home and do what it do.  If I had a bunch of extra money, I would try things out more often.  Oh, and speaking of the money aspect, almost all my products can be bought at your local drugstore or even grocery store.  However, I would search for coupons, or get them at your local Target or Walmart instead of the grocery store, as prices are always way jacked up when it comes to non-food related items.

So with that in mind, lets get started.

Aveeno Nourish and Condition Leave- In Treatment

This is from Aveeno's "Nourish and Shine" line.  I spray this on my ends and at the halfway mark between my scalp and ends.  Does that make sense?  Basically, not on or near my scalp ( to avoid potentially greasy hair).  This spray smells amazing.  I usually spray it at night after I have brushed my hair, before I go to bed.  It has made my hair noticeably softer.  Even my hair dresser noticed a difference and had asked me what I was doing differently.  I highly recommend this if you want to keep your ends healthy.  I may even try the shampoo and conditioner next!

L'Oreal Ever Strong Sulfate Free Shampoo and Conditioner

I recently tried this sulfate free shampoo.  If you don't know, many of the shampoos you buy at your regular drug store contain sulfate.  Sulfate is damaging to the hair, and is basically an ingredient used to "make bubbles" for a more clean feeling.  I tried the Reconstruct shampoo (pictured above).  But they have different kinds for different hair, color treated hair, etc. The smell of this shampoo and conditioner is rosemary and juniper.  It has a fresh smell, and smells a tiny bit earthy, but still good.  I love it.  As for the bubbly/lathering feeling when I scrub, it still produced a lot of bubbles/lather...not sure what this means, but I don't mind it.  It's been a long time since I've bought drugstore shampoo and conditioner, and I must say, I am impressed. Oh! And this shampoo is 100% vegan, which is a great plus!

TRESeme Dry Shampoo

I am a huge fan of dry shampoo, and have been before it's big boom recently.  It's not only great for taking away any greasy looking hair, or smell, but it's also great for teasing and giving your hair texture and volume.  I used to buy this one brand called S &G or something? I'll have to get back to you, but that was the only one I could find.  Until recently, when TRESemme made their "Fresh Start" line.  I have tried the other products in the line, but I can def say that the dry shampoo can do wonders for your hair, and smells great too.  Besides, it's not good to wash your hair everyday!

Oil of Olay Tone Enriching Ribbons Body Wash

I tried this body wash a while back and LOVED it.  You can definitely feel the moisture when you are rinsing off.  Some people may not like that feeling, but I definitely appreciate it.  It smelled great too.  As for the "ribbons," I didn't see them, but I sure felt the difference.

I used it all up and ran out- so when I went to get a replacement, I figured the Oil of Olay Silk Whimsy would be the same thing:

I was wrong.  While it smells great, and has a nice lather, it definitely is not as moisturizing.  I never use just body wash anyway.  I always use dove soap first, and then use a body wash.  So I can definitely appreciate the extra moisture, and I guess that's why I like the first one better.  Oh well! Next time.

Jergens Natural Glow

I think I have raved about Jergens Natural Glow before.  I have been proudly using it for a year now.  And in the cold winter month of January this past year, I actually did not want to kill myself when looking at a photo of how pale I really was.  I always hated seeing my birthday pics (my bday is in January), because I always looked like casper, and not just pale, but like an ugly pale.  Trust me, it wasn't a good look.  Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't like it made THAT VAST of a difference in those months, I didn't look like I frequented the tanning beds or anything.  I just looked more like normal people.  Anyhow, I really love Jergens, it doesn't smell weird, it doesn't look fake, it doesn't leave some weird residue that comes off on your clothes. I absolutely love it.  And, it works even better when you do have a little bit of a tan.  Give it a shot! I was hesitant at first, but it's well worth it.

Secret Scent Expressions Cocoa Butter Kiss

I'm kinda picky when it comes to deodorants because I hate the weird smell some give when you do end up sweating.  I want to love the dove deodorants, but my body just doesn't mix well with them.  When I discovered this scent expressions cocoa butter, I was very pleased with the very mild smell.  It's almost vanilla-y.  And they do have a vanilla too.  It lasts long, it's not too strong, and it works for me.

Clinique Liquid Facial Soap

I once sampled this face-wash from the Sephora samples I had gotten, and I loved it.  It felt so thick and nice on my face.  When I washed it off, my face felt so soft.  I think it's definitely gentle enough for sensitive skin.  It doesn't really have a smell to it, but it just feels super nice.  Now, I don't use it daily, because sometimes I like using a bit of a harsher face wash, one with beads or one that gives that tingly, clean feeling, especially in the summer months.  But I still stand by this Clinique face-wash, and highly recommend it. If you can somehow obtain a free sample (google it!), definitely try it.

Essie Nail polishes

Last but not least, just a personal picture of a couple Essie nail polishes I picked up at my local CVS.   Yes folks, CVS now offers Essie nail polishes!  I was super syced, as I love Essies variety of colors. I particularly loved these two colors.  I don't have the names with me, but I will update later.  For those who don't know, a lot of OPI freaks love Essie as well, so don't be so quick to turn your nose ;p

So that's all! Do you have any favorite products you'd like to share?  Have you tried any of the above?  I'm always down to try something new, so let me know!

What a Weekend

And not in a good way. :( I swear it's just been one thing after another.  Something great better come about after these past, what? 2 weeks? You know how they say before the good comes the bad, or something?  Or am I making that up?

First, the internet wasn't working.  Then, Friday, my computer somehow had gotten a virus pretending to be Microsoft Security Essentials.

Next, I had the stomach flu basically all weekend except today, Monday.  I was so excited to actually do something, like take Dev to the pool.  But no, Michael ended up getting the flu as well.  The yacking ensues.

On that note, I'm exhausted, but I gotta get ready for work tomorrow. Womp womp!  It's been freaking in the mid 90s along with way too much humidity here.  Disgusting and painful to be outside, unless you're at the beach or pool.....which I wanted to be oh so badly today. *le sigh*

Ta ta!

Of Course!

Last night was I not only going to post the products, but I was wearing this REALLY CUTE vintage dress I was soooooooooo super excited to share with you!!!!  And of course, the internet was out all night.  Greeaaattt.

I couldn't bring the pictures of the dress because I couldn't upload them and email them to myself :( Boo hoo!

But, I will soon be doing the product reviews and probably the dress tonight :)

Even if you don't check back, have a happy weekend!  I hope you enjoy your 3-day weekend/holiday.

Wednesday

Wow.  The past couple days have been crazy.  Between a trip to the ER, a night of literally 2 hours of sleep, a randomly swollen part of my palm/thumb becoming the size of a golf ball, and a very sick little one....it's been kind of draining.  But all is well, so for that I'm thankful.

I did manage to get an outfit shot yesterday before the madness.  Today, was a recovering day, so no outfit pics, plus I promise it was super boring anyway.  Here's yesterdays jaunt:

I did like J. Crew and wore what I refer to as "like colors."  Whenever I look at their catalogs (because I LOVE the outfits they put together), there's always somebody wearing the two same colors in different shades, and I love it every time!  You should try it sometime, it would have never been something I would have tried had I not see it.  And every time I saw it, I thought to myself, "oh they are wearing "like-colors,"  so I dubbed it that, fashion world! Me.

p.s. Every time I wear these heels, I can't even tell you how many compliments I get from strangers and non strangers.  It's kinda crazy, but I knew I loved them for a reason, three years ago when I got them.

p.p.s. Tomorrow I intend to post about the products I've been wanting to discuss

Night!

Tuned Stay

My poor little man hasn't been feeling very well. Since Thursday night, he's had a stomach virus.  I wanted one more day of rest for him before he went back to the sitter's, mainly because last night he was seemingly weak.

Anyway! It's freakin hot over here.  We went from a bunch of rain, 60s-70s weather, to hot-as-shit-86-degrees with 3453% humidity.  I browsed my blog today and saw a bunch of pant or capri outfits.  Thus, the heat + change = some skirt or dress outfits.

Besides that, I want to review some beauty products from recent purchases.  So stay tuned and check back.  Remember, if anyone has any questions or want some advice, (you can be anonymous if you'd like) let me know!

p.s. I created a tumbler that can be found here.  I know thats like a blog and another blog, but I don't look at tumblr that way.  I liked having a space that I can share beautiful pictures and things that interest me.  I hope you like my tumblr too!

Darn Shame

Friday nights or Saturday mornings is when I normally have time to sit on the couch and catch up on my blogs with minimal interruptions.

The damn shame for today, um besides the fact that the world is ending tomorrow (duh), is that these wonderful shoes:

(Thanks Kendi)

are from PAYLESS, except you're not paying less, because they are $64.99.  Womp womp!  I mean, I guess that isn't anything for some, but you know by now I'm a big cheapo....aka just broke n tryin ta live.

Anyhow, they're nice to look at.

Hope you had a happy Friday!

Tres

cardigan: thrifted, ($5)
blue tee: f21 ($14)
navy pants: daffys (in nyc), ($5)
leopard sandals: nyc, ($16?)

I love comfy outfits that manage to look awesome!  I have been really into blue's lately.  I remember when I was little, my mom saying people always told her she looked good in blue and red.  Ever since, I would pay attention to my complexion in those colors. Anyway, one thing I liked about this outfit were the leopard sandals and the animal necklace, and how they both came together with the print of the shirt.

Toodoloo!

Indecisive

Sometimes I get so excited to wear something, but I can't make up my mind about which to wear or how to wear it, so I'll take two shoes to work, or two cardigans, or whatever.  I do what I have to do.  I can't believe I'm that indecisive sometimes about clothing.  Sad, but true.

In this case, I was in looove with this vintage shirt, but also excited for the outfit underneath it.  To solve my problem, I wore the shirt as a jacket for when I went outside, and threw on my scarf when I took off the jacket for the outfit underneath.

 vintage striped shirt: thrifted, ($16)
pink tank: old navy ($4)
blue polka dot cardi: f21 ($16)
scarf: f21 ($8)
khaki pants: f21 ($26)
me too loafers: thrifted, ($8)

So there ya have it, those were my two looks for yesterday.  Have a happy Wednesday!  Only two more days till the weekend.

Happy Monday

Today was kinda weird, but my outfit was cool.

 cream cardi- nordstrom rack, ($10)
white vest- vintage, thrifted ($4)
yellow tee- h&m ($7)
orange j.crew pants- j crew, ($20)
kenneth cole sandals- macys, ($20)

I loved not only the layered look (I'm usually not that creative), as well as the mix of the colors.  The pants are a little more of a burnt orange than the pics made it seem.

Hope it gives you some inspiration!

Ram Ba Ba Bam

That title up there is part of the Rhianna song, "Man Down."  I like Rhianna, but I don't usually love her music.  I liked the Rude Boy song, but I do love this Man Down song.  It has a full reggae vibe, with her Barbados accent and all.  Great song.

Like I mentioned, and like may of you may know, Blogger was down for a couple days.  I promised some outfit pics and I wasn't able to deliver, but luckily, I still have the pics.  So here are last Thursday (I think? Maybe Fridays?) outfit pics, as well as my debut of my Warby Parkers (home try on's here):

 Warby Parker, Coltons:
white cardigan: liz claiborne outlet ($4)
gray tee: f21 ($6)
red skirt: american apparel, thrifted ($9)
hemp belt: f21 ($7)
michael kors sandals: macys (old), ($20)

So there ya have it.  Those old sandals of mine are now 4, almost 5 years old and still in great condition.  And I wear em every summer!

What do you think about the specs?  As much as I love Warby Parker, and I love dork flavored glasses, I'm not sure what I think about them on me.  This is the second time I've done this to myself.  Not sure what I'll do about it yet.  Thoughts??

Oh! And I've been meaning to share.  Last weekend, I stopped by an amazing vintage sale from Venus On a Half Shell, one of my fav vintage stores (I'll have to do a post about it soon for the locals!).  I got a bunch of great, truly vintage pieces I can't wait to share and post to etsy!

Have a great week ahead!

Dzo. Dza. Dzipitty.

Hello folks.  If you have blogger, you know that it was down for two days.  I actually had taken outfit pictures for you!  So I have that to post soon enough.  What are your weekend plans?

It's supposed to be rainy here for dayzonend.  But all that means to me is coziness. So for now, I leave you with this:

No, I don't usually rock em both at the same time.  Oh, and the ring was my mothers day present, but they accidentally shipped the bracelet, so then they shipped the ring for free and let me keep the bracelet too! Love them both, and Melody Eshani is someone I look up to as well.  She rocks.

Have a happy weekend!

Day After Day

Day after day, I look at my daily page hits and feel bad when I know you have come to my page, only to be disappointed! Besides being busy, I haven't been "in love" with my outfits.

But this time has been a learning experience of sorts to me.  I've kinda realized over this time, that not everyday has to be something spectacular.  There are gonna be lots of boring, plain days, especially in the summer!

But at the end of the day, it still is all my style, and I like to share it.  So I will continue to do so.  In fact, I was going to today, but I forgot my hot pink heels at work- and trust me, they were vital for the outfit.  Anyway, I decided to draw you a little something something instead:

I just couldn't stand the idea of sabotaging the shoes....

green button up silk shirt from j. crew- goodwill, ($5)
white beater- old navy, ($6)
black harem pants: f21 ($21)
hot pink patent stilettos- aldos from salvation army ($7)

The black pants can also be seen here

That's all for tonight! I hope that I have somewhat made up for the lack of posts.  Boring or not, I'll see you soon.

p.s. I got my warby parkers finally!  (inally meaning I finally had the money, the shipping was just two days!)  Can't wait to show you!

Mothers Day Gift Guide

Yup, today's post is going to be just as the title says.  Just to give you a heads up, most of it is going to be jewelry- the good news is that there will be something for every price range.  Holla. You know how I do.

$26.90 ASOS Drop Earrings With Tassels

These earrings are a perfect Mothers Day gift for a good friend, or a coworker with a great style, etc.  They have it in different colors as well, check it out!

$39 + Jess LC Diversy Collection

In the "Diversy" collection, they have funkier styles.  I fell in love with this little paisley when I saw one of my favs, Kendi of Kendi Everyday when she wore it in this pic:

How precious!  The bracelet is only $39, and the necklace I put up was $90, but check out all the different collections!

$48 M.E. I'm Fly Ring

Aight, look.  I love this ring from my (fellow Iranian) girl Melody Eshani SO MUCH, that I didn't even want to share it with you.  You know why? Because I'm broke, that's why.  And I would be BLOWN if they were sold out, which they will be soon (they already have been once).  They have it in gold, black and white.  My other homegirl Erykah Badu loves to rock the I'm Fly rings and bracelets!

$85 Personalized Charm Necklace

How amazing is this thing?? I love it!  I first saw this featured on Pioneer Woman's blog (another one of my favs for sure, thanks Caroline!).  Check out Southernheidibelle's shop on Etsy to see other personalizes items if this is too much for your mama recipient.  Oh, and if you don't know what Etsy is, it's a website for people to sell handmade or true vintage items.  It doesn't even have to be an item, if you are looking for a business card template or banner, or kids birthday party decorations, you can find it!  Very awesome.  Love etsy!
annd pssstttt: I finally took pics of some of my vintage clothes, so my shop will finally be opening soon!

$53.79  ASOS Tortoise Shell Boyfriend Style Watch

ASOS is a European shop with great clothes and jewelry.  They have their own brand as well as other brands like Nicole Richie's, Sienna Miller.  Anyway, check out their other watches and jewelry.  Or maybe get your mama nice scarf?

$125 Calender Bracelet

A cute little bracelet with the month and a tiny jewel or gem for the day the mama had one of her love.  Or if it's multiple, you can add more little calenders and it would like this:

Very cute! However, if you get the gold ones, they are...........wait, are you ready for it?? Waaiiittt fooorrrr itttt...$650!  Insane, I know.  But hey, I bet if you search etsy you can find something similar for less.  Check it out!

So what do you think? Do you like any of the stuff?  I know it's a little late and you may have already ordered something, but lets face it, there are a lot of procrastinators out there, ok?!

If I can think of anything more than the one item I have in my head that's not jewelry, then I will do another blog about it within the next couple days.  I'm going to really try to think of some original things, so check back!
