Trader Joes Favorites

Have you ever had Trader Joe's?  I always thought since it was mostly organic, that it would be more pricey, but it's actually not that bad at all.  Some things are more pricey, but mostly, things are either averagely priced or cheaper (like the milk I find is cheaper than the typical grocery store).  I also was hesitant to try it, as I imagined organic food tasted boooorriinng, but this actually wasn't the case at all (they even have samples everyday for you to try stuff!).

At Trader Joe's you can find a ton of different foods, meats, poultry, frozen sections, breakfasts, cereals, juices, all the typical stuff PLUS natural soaps, lotions, oils, etc.  I think they even have dog food!  Most of their foods I believe are preservative free, and they only have paper bags.  They let their employees do lots of art around the store, mainly for the description of the food item, along with ideas on what to eat it with.  I haven't tried too, too many things from there, but I wanted to tell you about my favorites that I have tried so far.

#1 Trader Joe's Hummus Dip
I have never tasted a better hummus dip.  I am usually not too ecstatic about the regular ones you find at the grocery store, I never finish them.  I decided to try this one for healthy snacking, and OMG that shit is off the hook!  I finished quickly.  They have all different hummus flavors, but I only tried the regular and absolutely loved it.

#2 Trader Joe's Five Layer Dip
I don't have a picture for this, unfortunately, but I first tried it at my girl Mirna's birthday party years back.   Besides a home-made layered mexican dip, I have never tried a better one.  After having this at Mirna's, I bought some from Giant and it was NOTHING compared to this!!  This is great for guests or even snacking for a movie.  The container is kind of small though.

#3 Trader Joe's Frozen Fruit
I also don't have a picture of this, but Trader Joe's has quite a selection of frozen fruit.  I first bought a bag for smoothie making.  My favorite one has berries and mango (I am a mango fanatic!)  The mango's have always tasted amazingly perfect.  I think I only made a smoothie one time, I always ended up just eating the frozen fruit by itself, or sometimes with vanilla ice cream.  It is always so refreshing and at least I wasn't being too unhealthy ;)

#4 Trader Joe's Frozen French Toast
I wasn't too sure what to expect with the frozen french toast, as it is made of wheat bread, but it was really, really yummy!  It's never too soggy, not too sweet, but really good, especially for being frozen!!  Perfect for those lazy Sunday mornings.

#5 Trader Joes Creamy Yogurt
I don't think that's the right name (God, I suck), but this yogurt is extremely creamy and yummy.  They have regular yogurt as well, and also non-fat yogurt.  The creamy one is the most fattening of course,  but the banana flavor is so worth it!  Plus, you're still getting those pro-biotics and calcium your body needs :)

Thus, if you have a Trader Joe's near you, check it out.  You can go to the link on top of this blog to try to find a store near you.  What are some of your favorites from Trader Joe's?

Favorite Postsecret(s) of the Week:

While this isn't true for me, I do feel disappointed when someone doesn't like cats, like I am sure dog lovers do with people who don't like dogs.  I am a cat lover for sure.  But there are definitely asshole/difficult cats out there.

As this also doesn't hold true for me, I thought it was funny because I am sure there are many out there that feel this way! I do love my in laws though, and I am glad I do.

Happy Sunday!

Today is a bit dreary, but I love dreary days, always.  I am a weirdo, so I've been told.  Anyway, I am going to clean up today and then paint on canvas for the first time ever! I have never really painted, except the elephant plaques I made for Devin's room (found on the baby blog I kept).  So I am really excited and nervous, because if I don't like it, I will be blown.  Hope you had a great weekend!  Try to enjoy your Sunday :)  **Take a moment today to realize and appreciate what you have.**

Virginia is for Lovers....NOT.

I just read an article about this truck:

I also almost threw up in my mouth from this person's ignorance.  Basically, the license plate ended up being a racist, pro-Hitler coded plate.  The 14 stands for some deuchebag white supremacist 14 word motto, "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children," CV stands for "Confederate Veteran," and and the 88 signifies the eighth letter in the alphabet (H) with the double-H meaning "Heil Hitler."

Uggghhhh.  Whhhyy?? Why are there still so many racist people on this earth?!  Why do people believe one religion, one race, one sex, one culture, heritage, sexual preference is better than others?  I just wish there were smarter, more peaceful, open minded people in this world.  I am SO thankful I grew up in such a diverse area, with such wonderful parents who never shoved any type of close-minded bull shit down my throat.  Have you noticed? Racism (or any type of prejudice really) is one of my biggest pet-peeves.  However, sociology taught me well there are reasons for the way people are and think; that is one course I think should be mandatory for everyone!

Anyway, I should have added by now instead of ranting,  the DMV did revoke the license.

P.S. Apparently, Virginia is the highest state in the nation with personalized license plates.

Which Obama Pin are You?

I stumbled upon this page while reading the blog, A Cup of Jo.  It had all these silly Obama pins like, "Phat asses for Obama..."  sike, not really, but did that get your attention for the males out there? ;)

Anyway, it does have really goofy "For Obama" pins for only $1.00 and I don't know about you, but I still love Obama.  Here are some of the pins that you can find here:

And my favorite:

Perfect!!

And just because:

My little fat boy in his Obama shirt :)

Owl Lamp

So, I have been wanting to so badly blog about my NY/NJ trip and the few things I got. BUT, the problem is that I have a million and three things going on right now and by the time I can blog, I am tired.

Tonight, however, I decided 'ok it's late, but let me do it.  Let me find my camera so I can do this damn thang!' And of course, I can't locate my camera. So, I decided to just tell you about perhaps my favorite purchase from Chinatown.

I went to this store called Pear River. It's a cute Japanese store in Chinatown that has furniture, lanterns, memo pads, chopsticks, buddhas, sushi dishes, mugs, just anything along those lines and I LOVED it, and so do other people apparently! Not to worry though, the lines weren't long and they have 3 huge floors. Anyway, I wanted to share with you tonight one thing I had to have for Dev:

It's an owl lantern!! So cute! I know you might be like, "....really?" but I assure you it looks cute with the light on, I'll post a pic when I actually put a light bulb in it.  Alas, I had to have it because it's cute and I especially love owls.  Plus, it can't be that bad if Michael didn't complain about it...

P.S. GREAT NEWS! I had to share that I happened to find my sandals that were sold out!

I found them at "Necessary Clothing" in Chinatown for $12.99.  w00t!

Young @ Heart

I have been thinking about this movie ever since I saw the preview about 2 years ago! I never knew what it was called, and my internet-guru-best-bud, Dave Kanner, from the band Seamonsters found for me in about 20 seconds. So, I gotta figure out where to rent it or how to watch it, but I can't wait!! Check out the trailer that gave me chills when I saw it in the theatre:

Whole Fruit Fruit Bars- Coconut

You know by now, since I've mentioned here and one other time about my favorite popsicle.  Well, I was highly disappointed when I went into Giant, our local grocery store, and found no coconut flavor Eddys Fruit bars.  I decided to just try Whole Fruit Real Fruit Bars coconut flavor for the time being, after all it was real coconut, how bad could it be? It turned out being not as creamy, but still yummy enough to the point that I wanted two in a row...(Jillian Michael work out DVD I'll be seeing you tomorrow).

Final verdict, yummy, but not as yummy as the creamy coconuts!

Happy Sunday!

I am on my way back from my weekend in Jersey and NYC. I had a great time with Michael and Devin and was very happy to see my friend Ruth.

I used to go to Brooklyn all the time 3 years ago, and I hadn't been for 2. We really didn't do much besides Chinatown and dinner, but I got a few cute things that I can't wait to share with you guys soon!

Jersey City

Sorry if my blog has been slacking lately.  I am actually away on a business trip in Jersey City.  Tomorrow after work, I will visit Liberty Park with Michael, who is coming up for the weekend.  I can't wait to take pictures!  Jersey gets a lot of crap, but I think we all can be a little too hard on it.  New York City is like 10 minutes away from where I am, so this weekend I will be in NY to do some actual sight seeing.  I used to visit NY a lot, but I never did the touristy things...unless you consider spending $60 on a lapdance touristy.

So really, the only thing I have for you is to let you know that today if you take a mug to starbucks, you cna get free coffee.  Enjoy!

Latest Etsy Find

I have been on the hunt for a perfect elephant necklace.  I love elephants and owls, I always have.  Dev's room is full of elephants.  My search wasn't a hard one, I knew I could count on Etsy.   I fell in love with a few necklaces but only opted to get one for now, because as we know, I am "saving." :(  No, but for real, I am putting every bit of left over money in the savings for a house.  We find out tomorrow morning how much we will get approved for, and I am so nervous!

Here were the two I adored:

I got the second one.  I do still love the first, as it looks very vintage.  Maybe it will be there still, it is in my favorites :)

P.S. I love my etsy ring that I bought, it looks very good on my hand, especially with my polished nails (I've been keeping it up!)

Happy Sunday!

The picture doesn't do the sunset in the mirror justice...

Hola peoples!  This weekend was pretty fun for me.  Friday night, did a party bus to DC, that was cool but actually not the best night.  Saturday was not feeling so well in the beginning (really because of lack sleep more than anything) but then grubbed at cookouts and enjoyed seeing people I hadn't seen in a while.  Then, I just chilled with some of my favorite men in my life, Dev, Michael and my brother.  We just sat back and relaxed, I enjoyed the weather, Cam played guitar for Dev (who loooooooves it EVERY time), and then I passed out early and slept in today.  Today there was a little running around but I feel I had a nice weekend.  I have lots and lots of work coming up this week!!  Hope you had a great weekend.

Gift Guide: Fun Baby Tees

Ok, I'm sure if you don't have a baby of your own, you know someone who does. So here is another great gift idea.

I splurged one day,(here my ass is talking bout spending again...) while I was looking for an Easter shirt for Dev when I came across a cute Run DMC onesie. Ok, so that's not all of the "splurge," I remembered how Spencers has some cute and some RIDICULOUS onesies (example: I love sucking tits). So of course I went there and got a Bob Marley Roots Rock Reggae onesie, (no Mom, it doesn't have weed leaves on it, I'll save that for when he's older.  Just Kidding!!) and a Jimi Hendrix one! They are a little big, but sooooo cute for this summer. I am totally excited! Besides, Dev loves music just like his mommy :)

Anyway, you can find band onesies online really easily as well, just google the persons favorite band and add the word "onesie" after it and WAHLA! you just found a great gift.

P.S. the Run DMC one was actually at Old Navy! I think they had an AC/DC one as well.

Please Help! Keep Reading...

A friend of mine that I adore, Carolin, is going to Rwanda in a month.  She is one of the hardest working people I know who aspires to help others and works hard to get what she wants.  She recently sent out an email to a couple of her friends (myself included), about a trip to Rwanda.  This trip isn't any trip, a couple of her school mates at George Washington University and Carolin organized and planned this trip, through a foundation called GlobeMed.

The trip is called the Rwanda Village Concept Project (RVCP), and it's goal is to create a Maternal health care educational program for women in Rwanda.  I am in love with this idea and so jealous I cannot attend!  My dream is to take Devin (with my tax money) when he is a little bit older to help out people out in other countries.  I want him to not just realize what we have, but appreciate it as well as learn about other cultures.  It is extremely important to me and I hope that I can make that dream of  mine come true one day.

What I am asking, no, BEGGING you to do, is to click on this link and read about the trip if you wish, or just skip the small details and donate for it!  You all know my steeze and how I am trying really hard to save, but I donated what I could because I know it's for a great cause and I am so excited for Carolin (but girl, if you don't go for some reason, I want that shit back ;p).  Seriously, please, 50 cents, $2, ANYTHING!!  Pass it on to your coworkers that you know have big hearts, your parents, anyone!

Happy (Easter) Sunday: A Picture Post

I have already cluttered up the walls of my fellow facebook friends with my weekend pictures of Devin, but we had two events this weekend, Devin turning 4 months, and his first Easter (which is special to Michael- I just liked his outfit).

For his 4 months, Michael had to help his parents with something so I decided to hike up Sugarloaf Mountain with Devster in the baby bjorn. My calves are sooooo sore now!! But alas we did it. Here are a couple 4 month pictures (p.s. notice haircut? I did it myself ;p) :

Here we are at the top of the mountain! I was sweaty and out of breathe, but I actually look larger in this picture than I am (I finally fit some old jeans, w00t w00t!)

And today, Easter Sunday, Dev and Michael went to church.  I did not attend, and therefore still am a Devil Bitch.  However, I enjoyed picking a cute outfit for Dev and I also bought a shirt for Michael as well.  Here are some pictures from today, some of them are blurry though :/

And last, but not least as it is my favorite:
