I'm baaaaccckkkkk!

Sorry about my random hiatus. I needed it. I'll transition to multiple posts per week here in a bit, but I know the next couple months are gonna be pretty busy.

Anyhow, I wanted to share a little family tradition I have started (and waited just about a year to do)! I'm so excited to be doing it, although I didn't remember to begin until yesterday.

Thankful Thoughts Project

Materials:
1 mason jar
any paper
couple different color pens (different colored pen per person)
scissors (optional)

Instructions:
Starting November 1st, every night at the end of your day, cut or tear a piece of paper, and write one thing you are thankful for. Put the date on the piece of paper (optional). Do this for everyday of November. Keep the mason jar in a place that you will see it daily. December 1, gather the family and read all the thankful thoughts out loud to eachother.

Cute, right?! I can't wait till Devin can understand this and participate as well. We will definitely keep these and put them in a ziploc bag (labeled with the year) and read them to Devin in a couple years. Whether you have kids or not, it's a great way to stop and think about some things you are grateful for. It's a nice little time out to reflect on how it actually isn't that bad.

Anyhow, here is a treat that I desperately needed today:

That's what this homeless guy says that sits in front of one of the Bethesda starbucks every single day. He says something else after it, but I'm not sure what.

Anyway, I'm very sad to say that my laptop is temporarily out of service. And while I have some outfit pics to share, I have no way to get them on the comp without spendin a little bit of money. So this week, I will continue the fall trends, and come up with some other stuff worth checking out.

For now, I am going to get ready for my looong day tomorrow, and go to bed. Goodnight!

p.s. I have a "probably" broken toe. So most of my outfits have just been boring outfits to go with boring flip flops since other shoes hurt. So don't worry, you're not missin much anyway

I couldn't help myself when I saw this shirt in Forever 21, I loved the color. The fit of it isn't accurately depicted in the pictures, I should have paid more attention while I was taking them to look for that, but oh well.

Also, I promise I'm not as fat as I look in the pictures (?). The camera adds 10 pounds people. Keep that in mind before you start snickering bout "well damn, she really has gained some weight," (lol).

And finally, it's starting to get darker faster, pretty soon my pictures won't be outside too often. Maybe I can beg someone from work to snap a couple shots in Bethesda during lunch....hmmm.

What up partay peoppllee?! Can you believe it's bout to be mid October already? We have had a couple hot days in the 80s the past couple days. I'm looking forward to this weekend, as it will be sunny and crisp.

I haven't forgotten about the Fall 2011 Fashion posts. A favorite reader of mine requested a shoe version, so that will be coming soon as well. Oh, and I finally figured out how to get my camera workin. I watched it charge this time and took it off the charger immediately. Should be straight from now on.

PSA: I think today is the last day, but American Eagle is having an AWESOME sale! Anything that has been marked down (with the white sticker), is an extra 50% off. I got a huge ass, over night bag for $15! A big awesome hat for $7! They have shoes for $7. Pajama shorts for $4, etc. Check it out! I never thought I was an American Eagle girl, and while I don't like the clothes with the brand name all over it, I do dig some of their stuff. ESPECIALLY their jeans! I have a hard time finding jeans that fit my ~~body~~ booty, and that aren't way too long. I could write a whole blog on their jeans, def worth checking out! Today is the last day you can get some jeans for like, $15. Go!

Hey ya'll. So I don't know what's going on with the battery of my nikon not charging, but Monday I took a pic and wasn't able to take another because of the battery. So I have a couple shots from then, and then Tuesday I charged the battery all day while I was at work.

Came home, tried to take a pic, it took it, but then I couldn't anymore because the battery was still dead. I gotta check it out and see what's going on, but needless to say, I was sad.

One thing you will notice (besides my hair fading TERRIBLY), is how curly my hair was both days! I did a cool trick Ifound from pinterest that involves a headband and not heat. It works wonderfully and I couldn't be happier with learning this hair style and rockin it. For once, I like the volume it has given me. I usually like volume, but feel like I often lack it, so that's what I mean.

Anyhow, here are the pics of what I was able to take, and if you like my hair, youtube "heatless curls, headband." It's super easy!

Fall 2011 Trends Pt. 1

With fall already among us, some of you may be wondering what trends will be seen often this year. So, like I do every year around this time, I'm going to give you a report of what's "cool" for this fall (pun intended).

1. Longer Hemlines

Whether you are wearing a maxi skirt or skirt that falls right under the knee, longer hemlines are still in for this fall. Don't know where to start? You can find PLENTY of inspiration with black maxi skirts. Find one from a thrift store with pleats, pleats are a big this season too.

Want a more casual look? Pair a maxi skirt with a vest.

2. Vests

Vests are also quite the trend this season. Vests are cool because you can really dress down an outfit with one, but still look chic. Also, in my opinion, they are a classic. If you want more ideas, check out what pinterest has to offer when you search "fall vest."

3. Color Blocking/Brights

Color blocking wasn't just a spring thing. Mixing bright colors is still very much in for this season. You'll be seeing a lot of bright yellows and cobalt blues. Try these hues mixed with rust, which is always a classic must have for fall. If bright yellow isn't your thing, fear not, because you will easily find a variety of yellows from marigold to mustard.

4. Denim/Chambray

Mixing chambray shirts is sooo easy to do, and the best part is, you can be super cute while staying comfy. Chambray shirts are so versatile, and are always great for layering. Whether it's peeping out from under a sweater or vest, or being worn as a cardigan, you can do a lot with chambray or denim shirts. You can also easily dress chambray up or down. Need ideas? Try pairing it with a maxi skirt, or layering it, so the collar peeps out.

5. Wide Legs

Wide legs are back in and super easy to find this fall. I always love the wide leg trend because it is so versatile. You can wear wide legs and dress them up so easily (see photo above). I always feel very chic in wide legs. Such an effortless way to stay cute while being comfortable.

You guys, I have had this blog post sitting in "edit" mode since Monday night! I was supposed to post it Tuesday morning but it slipped my mind because I've been soooooooooooo super sick. Bronchitis + sinus infection + nasty phlegm (gross, sorry) + headaches every night = mina-too-dead-too-think-about-blog.

Identity Crisis

So, I'm back to brunette. You know, I think most of my blog here I have been blonde, or semi blonde. I've definitely had some sort of highlights going on. But you know, I didn't realize how long I had the blonde and I was pretty satisfied with it (except towards the end it was too blonde, highlights started to blend together, be a bit too yellow, etc.).

While I'm still adjusting to the brunette, I really do miss the beginning of my blonde era. The beginning is when I loved it the most.

Yeah.......I think I need to get back to the at least the first pic soon. I"ll try to hold off as long as I can, and maybe I'll start appreciating the change for fall, but maybe it is true that blondes have more fun... : /

Blonde or Brunette?!

Oh my goodness. Fall is getting closer with every day. I initially, told myself I'd be back to brunette once fall came around, but now, I'm not so sure. I simply can't decide between the two! If you knew me when I was brunette, you would know I was like hard-core brunette, sayin hell no to blonde. But then gradually, my highlights started to bleed or whatever the hell happened, and I started really loving the blonde look. I guess I like that I have two toned hair. So, now I am completely torn. I'm thinking bout going back to a reddish brown first......I'll figure it out eventually.

Also, it's kinda nice that I actually get hit on sometimes now, where as before I never used to (NOT IN A WHORE WAY). But I don't know if that's because I actually look better, or is it just that blondes are looked at as easy? Who knows (clearly, this whole paragraph is a joke....in case you didn't know).

Either way, here is yesterday's outfit:

Size 9 target jeans. I know what you are thinking. You are thinking, dang girl, that means really like size 11 cuz Target runs big, right? But wrong, they're "junior" department, especially back in the day, actually ran like smaller than bigger. So really, these might be more like a 7. If they are closer to a 9, then it's ok too because they are a little big.

Anyhow, I really liked this outfit. I got the inspiration from none other than.....Pinterest!

Rainy Week

It has literally been raining since Sunday, maybe Monday? Either way, non stop. Still even raining tomorrow too. Wow.

So, being that tomorrow will be a flooded day, I have been looking up outfit ideas for shorts and wellies. Can't wait to wear my red Hunter boots tomorrow. And, I mean this in the most non-whorish way, but I have to wear longer shorts for work, and I hate the way that looks. I much prefer shorter shorts, but again, in the most non-whorish way possible.

But anyway, here is Wednesdays outfit:

So, I really needed a new pair of jeans, and I went to several different places. Finally, something told me to check american eagle, I have never gotten jeans from there. Actually, I have only bought like two things from there. But, I tried on like 6 different jeans, and their "jeggings," are more like real jeans than jeggings, this is a good thing! It is nice, thick, and stretchy denim. With the way my body is, bigger thighs/butt and small calves, it's hard for me to find skinny jeans that look alright, and these were prefect! I am really, really happy with them. And I'm rarely happy with new jeans, I usually hate having to break them in. Plus, they were on sale, 40% off. Good deal.

Feels like Cozy Fall

I really love rainy, cooler days that tell me fall is right around the corner. For some reason, the rain just makes me feel super cozy. And even though the holiday drinks came out at starbucks, I'm not quite ready to get my pumpkin spice on....but nevertheless I'm excited for it.

I finally started my long haul on getting ish done. I went though my whole closet, along with every other closet on the bedroom floor. I have a huge pile of clothes to sell, and 5 bags of other clothes that I'll be dropping off at a thrift store.

I still have sooo much more organizing, getting rid of things, and other big projects. Maybe I ought to take a staycation and take care of things, because for whatever reason, I suck at being productive on the weekends.

For now, I'm going to bed, but I will be back tomorrow morning with a post.

Hello September!

I started this post yesterday (Sept. 1st), so it's appropriate for me to have the title as that. Don't h8. Can you believe it's September already?! I love fall, as I have mentioned previously a million times. I won't bore you with it again. Instead, I finally have an outfit to show you:

Don't I look a little like a heffer? It's because I'm the heaviest I've EVER BEEN! For real, this is embarrassing, but I shall share to the world: just two weeks ago, I fit into a lot of my clothes, and was disappointed at my weight. This past Sunday, I weighed myself again (on the same scale at my moms house), and I had gained ALMOST 10 POUNDS IN 2 WEEKS?!?!! I have been eating a lot better and layin off the ben n jerrys so WTF?! I need to go to the doctor and get my blood checked because I think there is something goin on.

I have always been skinny and had a fast metabolism. I know the older we get it slows down and ish, but no. This isn't normal for me. When I tell people (like my coworkers) what I weigh, or what size I wear, no one believes me. So, at least I don't look as fat as I really am. I gotta get it together.

Skull and Glossbones

I just had to share. I've meaning to share this since last week. I actually got a pedicure last week. I literally hadn't had one for more than a year. That's sad. Don't get me wrong, I did my own feet and always have. But it was much needed this pedicure. I tried hard not to kick the girl in the face because yes, I'm so ticklish.

Anyway, the color I got, I was debating over. I wasn't sure it would look good on my skin because I get the red around the nails after a while, and while not so much on my feet, but I was nervous. Anyway, I ended up going for the color my eyes were set on, OPI's Skull and Glossbones.

I can't even describe this color appropriately, but it's from the Pirates of the Caribbean color theme they had. It's like a light gray.

But in most of the pics you see when you google image it, or when you see the bottle alone, it doesn't show the color as close to what it really is. This was the best google image picture I found to describe what the color looks like to/on me:

And even still, a little bit lighter than what this picture portrays. Anyhow, look at all the variations. This color will work in ANY season. I really love it.

I hate jersey shore

I hate Sammy shes so stupid i cant take it.

I started this blog last night after the show, and after they showed previews for the show that will air this Sunday before the VMA's. Truth is, I don't hate the show, but it is my guilty pleasure. I can't stand Sammy and how stupid she is though.

In other news, I bought these pants from Mustard Seed the day after the earthquake. They were only $8 and from gap. I especially LOVE the color, but you can't really see the richness of the color in these photos. They are this beautiful, dark green color. I can't wait to wear them with boots too. Crazy part though, they are size 6 in gap, which means I really might be a size 8 at this point. A little scary. I need to cool it on the magnum bars.

We tried different lighting, but the pants look even darker in the photos below. I really need to learn to utilize all that I can do with an slr camera.

I just like that I actually look kinda skinny in these last couple of photos.

Sorry I've been MIA. We had an earthquake, now we're getting a hurricane. Life is pretty cool. Aside from all that, I'm EXTREMELY BUSY at work and don't even have time do anything when I go home, so I haven't had a chance to take pictures.

I'm so overwhelmed. My house is a mess. It looks like an earthquake AND hurricane ran through it. The price you pay to have kids.....and work long hours.... Anyways ya'll, stay tuned. I'll try to post a post tonight or tomorrow, I worked an extra hour everyday so I can have a half day tomorrow.

Lightning!

Last night, we had a major storm, filled with back to back lightening for about an hour, it was wonderful! I LOVE thunderstorms (although if I'm home alone and it's night time, I get scared). I looove watching thunderstorms and they often go by way too fast!

Anyway, I have alwaaayyysss wanted to get an awesome picture of lightning. Last night, we went to dinner and on our way home, since I wasn't driving and the lightning was back to back, I snapped a million pictures, and was super excited to see the outcomes. There were plenty of boring pictures, and just plain black pictures, but I got a couple GREAT pictures too! Granted, they aren't the best quality, and there are a million better ones out there, but remember, these were taken with my iphone. I love them:

Pretty cool, huh? It was a super crazy storm, and I loved every second of it. I wanted to post these last night, but I had a killer migraine. I can't wait to take some even better ones with my camera and tripod :)

Rainy Day

It's a semi-rainy Saturday. I already enjoyed a thunderstorm, which you may or may not know, makes for a happy Mina.

Oh, and I scored major big yesterday on a, 'fill a bag of clothes for $10' thrift store sale. It's supposed to be at the end of the month, so I didn't expect them to have it yesterday. I made sure to pick pieces I only loved (I'm really working on that). When I tried everything on at home last night, everything fit! And all but two things are vintage and super cute! Major, major score!

At the Park

So, I totally forgot to post this earlier today (I had it half ready to post), but I completely forgot. Yesterday when I got off work, Michael and Devin were waiting for me at home so we could take a trip to the park. It was pretty nice, weather wise yesterday, and today was even better.

If you haven't noticed, I have gained quite a bit of weight. I've always had a fast metabolism, and have always hated being too skinny. But a month or two ago, I wasn't too skinny, I was probably a perfect weight, plus a little pooch. All of a sudden ( and 23,532 cupcakes later), I gained a whopping 12 pounds. My pooch is getting harder and harder to hide, so it was time to start working out. I have been doing Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. Today, will be day 3. That jaunt is hard. I read great reviews about it after Dev was born, but probably only did it a couple times. The stress of being a new parent + house buying + job seeking, oh, and plus breastfeeding, helped me lose the weight.

Let's Talk Hemlines

If you haven't noticed already, 2011 fashion has presented us with longer hemlines when it comes to skirts and dresses. We came into 2011 with maxi skirts and dresses paired with anything from boots to flip flops. With fall 2011 fast approaching, I want to introduce you to "the midi."

The midi is a mid length skirt or dress- it's not too long (like a maxi), and certainly not short (like a mini). It's just a classic, chic length and look. It can be dressed up or down. You can be short or tall, and still easily pull off the look with the right shoes (and length). Here are some images I've found (and loved) from Pinterest to give you some inspiration and insight on "the midi":

If you're diggin the trend like I am, I would hit up your local thrift store, as I'm sure you will find a plethora of mid length skirts to enjoy this fall.

So, yesterday, I rushed home to hurry and try to take a picture so that I could change into comfy clothes (and I got home late mind you), and I moved all of this stuff on the deck to try to get a couple nice pics, I take A picture, go to my camera to adjust the height bc I didn't like the turn out of said picture because of the angle, and the camera dies. I didn't know where the charger was, and I just wanted to change so badly.

Alas, I decided to deal with the one picture I had. Unfortunately, I don't think the picture does the outfit a lot of justice. When I paired this outfit together, I was really very proud of myself. I would have never pictured the two colors together, but somehow I did, made it work, and was very proud. So again, I know the outfit seems kinda 'meh,' but I was proud. Here it is:

Usually, when I go to Goodwill on Tuesday's for their 15% or whatever percentage off of clothes they have on Tuesdays, their "customer appreciation days," I am rummaging the racks for my next vintage or high end clothing find. Yesterday, however, since there were so many people rummaging through the clothing racks, I didn't feel like really dealing with it. I actually avoid going on Tuesdays, which sucks price wise, but oh well.

So anyhow, I rummaged the dishes/odd and ends section instead, which I never do while I'm there. I really need a cute china cabinet to display cute dishes I find. There are so many beautiful retro dishes out there that I'd love to display and have. But for now, I will show you what I got away with getting last night:

I couldn't resist this vintage mug. I love mugs of this small size, they are perfect for tea on rainy, fall days. It was only $1 or so. The iphone pic didn't accurately capture the color, but it is more of a brownish/gray color.

I have been wanting one of these things for a while, you know, in case I ever host a brunch (which seems like it will never happen for some reason). Anyhow, I have wanted one of these vintage whatever-they're-called, to put milk or OJ in for guests for morning breakfast. Or, if I ever get my guest room together, I could fill it water and a glass on a tray next to their bed side table. Ahh, to dream.

I couldn't resist this vintage Hobby Holly (is that what she's called?) frame. I had the bed spread of her when I was a little (still have and use the pillow case), and loved it. It always reminded me of my moms younger days. I couldn't resist buying this little frame in case I ever have a little girl of my own. It's too precious.

Lastly, I finally found another cute little bowl for jewelry to be thrown into from a long day of work. I loved the orange with the blue and gold accents. Too bad it was the only one. How could I resist?

Oh, and lastly for real now, I wanted to share my latest nails. I used those Sally Hansen Nail strips, (I thought I had talked about them before, but I just did a search on my blog and for some reason can't find it), this one was called "bamboo." I never see this one in the stores, and it's not even on their website, I am wondering if they have discontinued it, but I really love my nails and have gotten several compliments. My left hand is totally screwed though, and I didn't put on top coat, which I obviously should have.

Oh! And have you tried the magnum bars??? I hear they are amazing, especially the caramel one. But every time I go to cop some, those joints be sold out. This is the dark chocolate one, which I craved even more than a Georgetown Cupcake. Wow. Definitely try them!

Avocado Smoothie

This weekend, I got stuck with some type of throat infection. It's been awful, as I can still barely eat anything. I woke up Friday with my throat feeling dry and pretty sore, but I didn't think much of it. Ever since I got my tonsils out, since I was like 7, I NEVER EVER get any throat problems. Rarely get a sore throat, rarely get a cough. Saturday morning, woke up with the same dry feeling and just felt awful. I mean, I didn't have a fever or anything, but because I had been in so much pain by Friday night, I was super dehydrated.

Luckily, Michael made me go to the emergency clinic, and they did a rapid strep test that came out negative. The doctor barely needed to even look at my throat to tell me it was filled with puss (what?!), and that I had white bumps in it, and that it was super swollen and looked "miserable." I got prescribed some strong antibiotics and prednisone (steroid) for swelling. Now, its Tuesday and I feel like the white bumps or whatever have gotten worse, I'm still waiting to hear back from the docs. But the pain scale is def less than Saturday, which is good.

Anyhow, not being able to eat much, I decided it was time to try this avocado smoothie recipe I had been wanting to try. It's soooooo super yum and very good for you!

All you need is:

- half an avocado
- half a banana
- half a semi peeled apple
- some ice
- splash of milk
- some honey and/or sugar to taste

And the end result:

Super yummy goodness thats very good for you. Avocado is one of those super foods, you know. Yum!

I just wish I could fully enjoy this drink without the sweetness hurting my throat. But, it's totally worth it.

Happy Friday ya'll! Since I sucked at posting this week, I was able to take some time last night and put in on my prior outfits of the week that I was super excited to share! So, I'll start with yesterdays:

Thursdays outfit:

The funny thing about this skirt is that I got a couple cute things for super cheap at j. crew this past weekend, and I saw the skirt but passed. They were having a sale on already marked down stuff, the skirt was "marked down" to $50 (puhlease), and then 30% off of that, plus 15% off using my student discount. But anyway, I went back Monday because I kept thinking about the skirt, then in the store I was holding it and thinking for about 10 minutes, thinking things like what I could pair it with and should I really get it?? Then finally I was like 'Oh Mina, just get it, you clearly came back for it,' and I'm so glad I did because a) yes, I can pair it with soo many things, and b) the material is such that I can wear it easily in summer AND winter. Even though I'm not a fan of what I'm bout to say.....WINNING!

Wednesdays outfit:

I had been wanting nude, heels, and with patience, I found the perfect pair at goodwill. When I really want something, I usually am patient until I find it at a thrift store or second hand store, and I'm always so proud and so glad I waited. I always liked this dress from J. Crew when I saw it in the catalogs, but I never even thought twice about one day purchasing it. The dress was even cheaper than the above skirt, it was marked down to $40 plus the above discounts. I can't believe it was originally $148!

Manic Monday

How was your weekend? Mine was alright, nothing spectacular. Wasn't as productive as it could have been, but I actually got up early yesterday, for once. I really need to work on that.

One plus to my weekend, I finally got me some Toms. I have been wanting the red ones forever, like literally, more than a year. I just never felt like coughing up the $40 somethin bucks, I guess. I don't know why I never got them. Anyhow, I put mine on hold and walked over to the kids section, and was pleasantly surprised when I saw kids Toms! Dev's little feet have grown, and he was in need of some new slip ones besides his crocs. He has cute little vans that I love, but they are almost too small.

Aren't they so sweet? It was the only color they had, but I loved them. I was told they were $20, but they were actually like $28, and I was disappointed and almost didn't get them. But, I couldn't really resist.

Plus, I love when Dev and I have a similar look going on at the same time. . Also, the best part is, kinda like warby parker, every pair of Toms bought, a free pair goes out to a child in need. Awesome!

I haven't seen those though, only the Sally Hansen ones, and they are usually pretty sold out. I guess it's the new craze!

Fireworks

I had been looking for more 4th of July pics- wait, did I ever do a first post for it? Anyway, I have a firework pic and a cute pic of Dev and I from when we watched fireworks.

I apologize I do not have any outfit shots for my lil wayne concert experience. I was wearing a navy blue shirt with several buttons unbuttoned for a sexier effect, I was also wearing black ankle pants, and my gray faux snake skin sandals.

Now, before I lose any credibility for attending a lil wayne concert, I gotta let you know, he is an amazing performer, I had no idea! The crowd was such a vast mix of people, there were even your typical, mid 30, middle class professionals. There were also unfortunate skank 15 year olds wearing shirts as dresses, and moms who brought their 8 year old sons. Uhhhhhhhhhh...

Regardless, he played a wide variety of awesome songs, and did I mention Rick Ross opened for him? It was great. Oh, and Wale (a DC local that's blowing up) stepped on stage as well. One of my favorite parts about the concert, was waynes reminders to the audience, words he both began the concert with, and ended it with as well:

"Let me tell you three things about myself. 1, I believe in God. 2, I am not shit without you. 3, I.am.not.shit.without.you."

I thought it was sweet.

Last, I will leave with what he was wearing for most of the concert. A white shirt with pink collar and trim on the arms, khaki pants, high socks, and some shelltop adidas looking shoes. It was super cute! He must have been wearing it when he "ripped it up at the skatepark," (as he tweeted) right before the concert.

(he got super close to us at one point!)

One thing's for sure, no matter how much you may dislike wayne, find him unattractive, think he may sound annoying, etc., he does posses an amazing amount of swagger that just makes you somehow swoon (or something?) in his presence.

I had been looking for a black jumper, that wasn't a halter top or tube top. Searched a couple Forever21s, and finally, found the perfect one in my size. I was worried it would be too long ( I have that problem often), but it was perfect! And, I got my new shoes just in time to pair it with.

The shoes are super cute, but not as bright in person as I had hoped. They also run a little bit big. I'm almost debating returning them. They are super cute but are they worth $50? How do you feel about jumpers? I know they go in and out of style all the time, but I think if it's not too crazy, it can be pretty classic, no?

I spent this weekend at a random beach trip with my brother, Jamie (his best friend growing up), and Michael. It was a much needed, relaxing trip. I worked extremely hard all last week, and especially Friday. I was nearly the last person in the office and left shortly after 6:45, after having a jam packed day.

I definitely enjoyed some bad food, and some bad sun. I now have a bunch of freckles to show for it. Though I use sunblock, I still get lots of freckles around and on my nose, and I have kinda always liked them.

So anyway, now I have a bunch of catching up to do at work, and hopefully I'll have a couple cute outfit shots for you soon since I made a pit stop at the outlets on the way to the beach :)

Sunday

I won't get into unecessary detail, but I had a great Saturday night/Sunday morning with my parents. I got little sleep, but I woke up feeling a very spiritual feeling, this overwhelming feeling of loving everyone. I put on fb, "just one of those days where you feel like you love everyone so, so, so much you don't know what to do." Have you ever felt that? I'm definitely not exaggerating when I say it's overwhelming. A more simpler way to put the feeling, though, is just feeling a whole bunch of appreciation.

Anyhow, Friday after work, I had nothing to do and went to the mall. I ended up going to several stores with great sales. I originally went for Zara's sale, but gap, and even j. crew of all places had better sales going on. I ended up getting my FAVORITE weekend lounge sweatpants that I've been wanting from j. crew (remember my winter version?) and my favorite belts from there that I have had my eyes on lately. The sweatpants were like $70, but were knocked down to $20 and 30% off. Done!

I also had enough time to browse different stores for different prices on hats. Ended up getting them from Nordstroms, but I got two, along with a cute skirt for $13 bucks, not bad.

I really loved my outfit! The night version of this outfit was minus shorts plus j. crew lounge pants.

I'm overall very pleased with the way my summer outfits have been turning out. On extremely hot days, it's hard for me to usually do anything not-so-basic, and while I def appreciate my lazy/comfy outfits on the weekend, I'm proud of myself for continuing to try different things (in this example, long sleeves in summer- don't think I would have tried that before).

Camp Love

I stopped by my friend's camp the other night, I was finnin for a s'more.

And I needed not be, to be honest. I am gaining weight, and I can't stop eating Ben N Jerrys at night, but I think it's starting to become a little too obvious. I was ok prob, at least 3 pounds ago? I was happy I gained more weight (as I usually love thicker more than thinner), but it's also bikini season, so I could afford to at least starting a healthier regime.

Rainy Monday

Rain + Monday = wanting to be cuddled up in my bed with a book. This has been my little fantasy/daydream since I was in 2nd grade, and ever since, I've loved rainy days. Especially rainy fall days. There's something so cozy about them, but I love rainy days in summer too.

Last week, I had plenty of outfits that I loved and wanted to share. However, I had some obligation almost everyday after work, which resulted getting home around 830-9, and having not time to spend with my lil man or do anything else for that matter. One thing I liked about this outfit, is that I would have never thought to pair these two colors before, but with a little bit of inspiration mixed with creativity, I did it successfully and loved it. Sunday Funday

Sunday Funday for me was relaxin and eatin a bunch of good treats.

My breakfast idea randomly popped in my head, but boy was it delicious!

Toasted bread with nutella and cut strawberrys. YUM!!! Not to sweet, not too terrible for you, and the perfect mix of crunchy, sweet, and soft.

After my breakfast, I lounged around all day doing a whole bunch of nothing. Saturday I had finished the book, Room by Emma Donoghue, AMAZING! I read it in 24 hours, a little less. I highly recommend it.

Around dinner time, I started feeling hungry, but wanted to snack first, so, I decided to finally make my kale chips!

Recipe:

- 1 bunch of kale
- 2 teaspons of olive oil drizzled on top
- a little salt or seasoned salt

Set oven to 375 degrees
after mixing the above ingredients, put it in a cookie sheet into oven
keep 'em in for about 10 minutes or until the edges brown a little and voila! You're done.

They were pretty good. People were right when they said that it kind of tastes like potato chips. Try it for a healthy snack. It was super easy.

Lastly, before bed I was craving something sweet again, so I cut up strawberries and made my special sauce that I will have to cover for you guys one time. It's so yummy!

Heat Wave

We got that pre-summer heat wave going on in our urea. Like I said yesterday, if it wasn't SO humid, it wouldn't be nearly as bad!

But, let's get to the point. This is one of my favorite skirts, but it's kinda hard to pair colors with. I'm excited to see what else I can/will do with it. For now, here was today's look:

Last night, the skirt looked so brown (with hints of blue). Today, though, it looked gray again. Surprisingly, this skirt is really comfortable too. Oh, and I added a little unnecessary accessory, my belt. I thought it looked cute added on though:

I had my outfit planned last night before bed, and I must say, I really loved today's simple outfit. First of all, my shirt is one of my favorites. I love the material, and I love gray shirts, especially ones that have those little dots of other colors, do you know what I'm talking about? I tried messing with one of the pictures to better show you, but you can't really tell.

Anyhow, you are probably going to see these jeans I'm wearing often (when I wear jeans), because let me tell you, I don't fit into hardly any of my jeans or other pants. Sure, I stuff my face with ice cream every night almost on a daily basis, but at least my face isn't getting fat? Regardless, besides the fact that I do need to tone up, I am pretty happy with my body right now.

And for the office AC:

I got to wear pants before it got super hot. And a long sleeve! I never used to wear long sleeves if it was more than 80 degrees outside. But, my style has evolved and I"m getting ready to try new things.

I got one extra day of pants fit in (today), even though it's supposed to be 89 degrees. It's already hot as hell out there. The rest of the week is supposed to be 97+ UUGGGHHH. I'm not ready for this. The humidity here is just as bad as Florida, so it's hot as shit.

Today was a great Sunday for me. Probably the best one I've had in a while! I woke up, relaxed, took a nap with Devin, and then went to Butlers Orchard and hand picked strawberries. I had never done this before, but had a great time. Devin pretty much got the gist, but mostly kept eating them. After that, we got this awesome local ice cream, called Jimmie Cone. Next, we got a local fried chicken jaunt for dinner. Healthy, I know. But hey, I sure enjoyed my Sunday.

Tiny Crocs Rock my Socks

I had been on the hunt for some type of sandals for my son to play in at the babysitters on these hot scorching days we've been having lately. He already had these:

And they are pretty aight, but I didn't want them to get ruined.

I searched and searched for different sandals that were similar. There are plenty of cute flip flops, but who knows how comfy they are long days of walking and playing- probably not very. So I want comfort, easy to come on and off, versatile, and NOT UGLY.

I keep finding these:

Which were really my last resort. I really don't like them. But even worse, I began to see a lot of these:

I don't play that.
Absolutely not. These were the DEFINITE NO NO's on my list. I hate them. Some may call me ridiculous, but I HAATTEE them. Unless he's climbing the rocky mountains, he's not wearing these.

But then my coworker suggested crocs. And I figured, as much as I used to hate them, they probably were the perfect pair of breathable shoes that can be the most versatile. I didn't even care if they were real crocs or not. So during my lunch yesterday, I trekked out to the mall to find some. I didn't get very far because I was wearing heels and didn't feel like walking to the other side of the mall. I figured my hunt would have to continue.

Later that day, I went to get Devin. When I picked him up, I saw he was wearing crocs! I was like Michael, what the ef? Where did he get these? I was looking for some today! Why didn't you tell me you had gotten them?? He had so kindly reminded me that he mentioned them a couple months back, and my exact words were, "Ew! Fuck NO!" Hahaha :)

But through the trials and tribulations, they turned out to be the best option. And they looked so adorable on him! Look how tiny and cute they are:

Now, you may be thinking to yourself, "wow, is it that serious, Mina?" But come on people, I am a fashion blogger. Of course it's that serious. I'm half way joking....but fashion blogger or not, I am very picky about shoes, and I always have been since my wee days. I always look at a guys shoes. It says a lot about them, and I know I'm not the only girl that feels this way!

So anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

And I can't get over how cute they actually are....(maybe only for the toddlers?)

Vintage Vixen

(lolz, that title is a joke).

I wore this beautiful dress today that I was so excited to take pictures for. But as soon as I came home, one thing led to another (you know, cooking, picking up, putting Dev to bed), and by the time I was ready to take a picture, I look in the mirror and the dress is all jacked up and wrinkled. Learned myself a lesson there....

So as disappointing as that was, I'll have to debut it another day, which will be soon anyway. For now, I'll show you my favorite, real vintage dress that I bragged about in a previous post. I absolutely love it!

Excuse my nails in the above picture. Unacceptable, I know. Although, hopefully you didn't even notice them until I pointed them out. Anyhow, this dress by itself may seem very old fashioned looking. I imagine that a lot of people would be very hesitant to wear this dress, including me a year or so ago. But, I felt I did a good job of modernizing this dress with the appropriate shoes. A lot of shoes could have worked, but I really loved the way these shoes played out. Shoes can be such a vital part of changing an outfit. And how perfect was that yellow belt that I had thrown on? Back to the dress, I love how the little tie comes down in the front. And the yellow and white stripes! I truly love this dress and am so thankful I found it, and that it fit me.

The day I got this dress, I actually got a ton of vintage stuff, a lot of which you will hopefully see soon.

As promised, I want to go over some recent products that I have bought and tried out. First off, my favorite store is CVS. I love trying beauty products. Whether it's a shampoo, face wash, or make up, I can't wait to get home and do what it do. If I had a bunch of extra money, I would try things out more often. Oh, and speaking of the money aspect, almost all my products can be bought at your local drugstore or even grocery store. However, I would search for coupons, or get them at your local Target or Walmart instead of the grocery store, as prices are always way jacked up when it comes to non-food related items.

So with that in mind, lets get started.

Aveeno Nourish and Condition Leave- In Treatment

This is from Aveeno's "Nourish and Shine" line. I spray this on my ends and at the halfway mark between my scalp and ends. Does that make sense? Basically, not on or near my scalp ( to avoid potentially greasy hair). This spray smells amazing. I usually spray it at night after I have brushed my hair, before I go to bed. It has made my hair noticeably softer. Even my hair dresser noticed a difference and had asked me what I was doing differently. I highly recommend this if you want to keep your ends healthy. I may even try the shampoo and conditioner next!

L'Oreal Ever Strong Sulfate Free Shampoo and Conditioner

I recently tried this sulfate free shampoo. If you don't know, many of the shampoos you buy at your regular drug store contain sulfate. Sulfate is damaging to the hair, and is basically an ingredient used to "make bubbles" for a more clean feeling. I tried the Reconstruct shampoo (pictured above). But they have different kinds for different hair, color treated hair, etc. The smell of this shampoo and conditioner is rosemary and juniper. It has a fresh smell, and smells a tiny bit earthy, but still good. I love it. As for the bubbly/lathering feeling when I scrub, it still produced a lot of bubbles/lather...not sure what this means, but I don't mind it. It's been a long time since I've bought drugstore shampoo and conditioner, and I must say, I am impressed. Oh! And this shampoo is 100% vegan, which is a great plus!

TRESeme Dry Shampoo

I am a huge fan of dry shampoo, and have been before it's big boom recently. It's not only great for taking away any greasy looking hair, or smell, but it's also great for teasing and giving your hair texture and volume. I used to buy this one brand called S &G or something? I'll have to get back to you, but that was the only one I could find. Until recently, when TRESemme made their "Fresh Start" line. I have tried the other products in the line, but I can def say that the dry shampoo can do wonders for your hair, and smells great too. Besides, it's not good to wash your hair everyday!

Oil of Olay Tone Enriching Ribbons Body Wash

I tried this body wash a while back and LOVED it. You can definitely feel the moisture when you are rinsing off. Some people may not like that feeling, but I definitely appreciate it. It smelled great too. As for the "ribbons," I didn't see them, but I sure felt the difference.

I used it all up and ran out- so when I went to get a replacement, I figured the Oil of Olay Silk Whimsy would be the same thing:

I was wrong. While it smells great, and has a nice lather, it definitely is not as moisturizing. I never use just body wash anyway. I always use dove soap first, and then use a body wash. So I can definitely appreciate the extra moisture, and I guess that's why I like the first one better. Oh well! Next time.

Jergens Natural Glow

I think I have raved about Jergens Natural Glow before. I have been proudly using it for a year now. And in the cold winter month of January this past year, I actually did not want to kill myself when looking at a photo of how pale I really was. I always hated seeing my birthday pics (my bday is in January), because I always looked like casper, and not just pale, but like an ugly pale. Trust me, it wasn't a good look. Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't like it made THAT VAST of a difference in those months, I didn't look like I frequented the tanning beds or anything. I just looked more like normal people. Anyhow, I really love Jergens, it doesn't smell weird, it doesn't look fake, it doesn't leave some weird residue that comes off on your clothes. I absolutely love it. And, it works even better when you do have a little bit of a tan. Give it a shot! I was hesitant at first, but it's well worth it.

Secret Scent Expressions Cocoa Butter Kiss

I'm kinda picky when it comes to deodorants because I hate the weird smell some give when you do end up sweating. I want to love the dove deodorants, but my body just doesn't mix well with them. When I discovered this scent expressions cocoa butter, I was very pleased with the very mild smell. It's almost vanilla-y. And they do have a vanilla too. It lasts long, it's not too strong, and it works for me.

Clinique Liquid Facial Soap

I once sampled this face-wash from the Sephora samples I had gotten, and I loved it. It felt so thick and nice on my face. When I washed it off, my face felt so soft. I think it's definitely gentle enough for sensitive skin. It doesn't really have a smell to it, but it just feels super nice. Now, I don't use it daily, because sometimes I like using a bit of a harsher face wash, one with beads or one that gives that tingly, clean feeling, especially in the summer months. But I still stand by this Clinique face-wash, and highly recommend it. If you can somehow obtain a free sample (google it!), definitely try it.

Essie Nail polishes

Last but not least, just a personal picture of a couple Essie nail polishes I picked up at my local CVS. Yes folks, CVS now offers Essie nail polishes! I was super syced, as I love Essies variety of colors. I particularly loved these two colors. I don't have the names with me, but I will update later. For those who don't know, a lot of OPI freaks love Essie as well, so don't be so quick to turn your nose ;p

What a Weekend

And not in a good way. :( I swear it's just been one thing after another. Something great better come about after these past, what? 2 weeks? You know how they say before the good comes the bad, or something? Or am I making that up?

First, the internet wasn't working. Then, Friday, my computer somehow had gotten a virus pretending to be Microsoft Security Essentials.

Next, I had the stomach flu basically all weekend except today, Monday. I was so excited to actually do something, like take Dev to the pool. But no, Michael ended up getting the flu as well. The yacking ensues.

On that note, I'm exhausted, but I gotta get ready for work tomorrow. Womp womp! It's been freaking in the mid 90s along with way too much humidity here. Disgusting and painful to be outside, unless you're at the beach or pool.....which I wanted to be oh so badly today. *le sigh*

Wow. The past couple days have been crazy. Between a trip to the ER, a night of literally 2 hours of sleep, a randomly swollen part of my palm/thumb becoming the size of a golf ball, and a very sick little one....it's been kind of draining. But all is well, so for that I'm thankful.

I did manage to get an outfit shot yesterday before the madness. Today, was a recovering day, so no outfit pics, plus I promise it was super boring anyway. Here's yesterdays jaunt:

I did like J. Crew and wore what I refer to as "like colors." Whenever I look at their catalogs (because I LOVE the outfits they put together), there's always somebody wearing the two same colors in different shades, and I love it every time! You should try it sometime, it would have never been something I would have tried had I not see it. And every time I saw it, I thought to myself, "oh they are wearing "like-colors," so I dubbed it that, fashion world! Me.

p.s. Every time I wear these heels, I can't even tell you how many compliments I get from strangers and non strangers. It's kinda crazy, but I knew I loved them for a reason, three years ago when I got them.

Tuned Stay

My poor little man hasn't been feeling very well. Since Thursday night, he's had a stomach virus. I wanted one more day of rest for him before he went back to the sitter's, mainly because last night he was seemingly weak.

Anyway! It's freakin hot over here. We went from a bunch of rain, 60s-70s weather, to hot-as-shit-86-degrees with 3453% humidity. I browsed my blog today and saw a bunch of pant or capri outfits. Thus, the heat + change = some skirt or dress outfits.

Sometimes I get so excited to wear something, but I can't make up my mind about which to wear or how to wear it, so I'll take two shoes to work, or two cardigans, or whatever. I do what I have to do. I can't believe I'm that indecisive sometimes about clothing. Sad, but true.

In this case, I was in looove with this vintage shirt, but also excited for the outfit underneath it. To solve my problem, I wore the shirt as a jacket for when I went outside, and threw on my scarf when I took off the jacket for the outfit underneath.

That title up there is part of the Rhianna song, "Man Down." I like Rhianna, but I don't usually love her music. I liked the Rude Boy song, but I do love this Man Down song. It has a full reggae vibe, with her Barbados accent and all. Great song.

Day after day, I look at my daily page hits and feel bad when I know you have come to my page, only to be disappointed! Besides being busy, I haven't been "in love" with my outfits.

But this time has been a learning experience of sorts to me. I've kinda realized over this time, that not everyday has to be something spectacular. There are gonna be lots of boring, plain days, especially in the summer!

Many are victorious around the world about the news of Osama. So, if that didn't make a great ending to your weekend, hopefully it will make a great start? Me personally, I'm not all gung-ho about it. But, I do feel happiness for those who lost a loved one and feel some sort of closure.

Last week for me was busy, and I needed a little break. Not to mention I wasn't in love with all my outfits. I started second guessing even taking pictures of them almost daily. What do you think? I may or may not post some quick outfits from the past week, we'll see.

Lazy Days

I have been pretty lazy lately. Yesterday, didn't feel like blogging and went to bed. Only to wake up at 4:00 am with sever back pain and couldnt sit still and fall back asleep till 6. Forced myself up at 7:30, and the about 40 ft from work started hearing what sounded like a flat tire. park. get out my car, only to discover a BIG ASS SCREW WITH WASHER ATTACHED ON on the front left tire, and walk to the other size to see a flat right tire. tiiight.

So needless to say, I didn't have the best morning, but I decided I'll throw some pictures at you to sum up what my weekend consisted of.

Times Two

I'm posting yesterday's outfit and today's outfits(s?). It was 85 degrees today, so I wanted to wear a dress for sure. But one little problem...I have gained some weight so all my dresses were too short!! So I threw on another skirt under today's dress. You'll see:

Do you see the weight gain? On a more positive note, I would have never thought of putting this bright yellow with this orange-y color, but I love it!! These are also my favorite pair of summer heels. They do end up hurting a little at the end of the day, but most of them do eventually anyway.

When I moved into this house last July, the garden looked a bit different, and, well, not like a garden. There was another tree out front, but it was half dead so we took it down.

This spring, I saw some buds sprouting and thought they might be tulips, bought that it was too good to be true. Plus, I didn't plant them or see them there the past summer so what the hell??! Well, little did I know they are spring time flowers. I swear flowers are amazing because I saw the tall sprouts (or whatever they're called?) and then all of a sudden, there were pink beautiful flowers all tall! It's like they appeared over night. First there were only pink, then there were what I thought was yellow, but had the red/pink in them- like the experiment I tried to do back in 4th grade, where I put the end of the carnation in food coloring...I guess I didn't expect cross breeding between all that dominant and recessive jaunt.

And then a few days later I notice something else sprouting in the front of the tulips. I don't know what they are, but I think it's gorgeous! And check out the purple tiny flowers hugging the ground. I'm no expert, but those yellow flowers to the very right of the picture, they might get really big....(lolz) No but for real, in the back of the pic where you see the bush, that's an azalea bush. So all in all, I'm really excited for this garden! But because I know nothing about flowers, I don't know how long they will last, and have a feeling it won't be as long as I'd like.

Between the grass and the dirt of the garden, that green plant is sprouting above, and it separates the grass from the garden, which is cool. Man, I wish I had the talent of the people before me!

Although, I don't get the randomness of the tulips "lining" the walk way. I still love them, and gasped at the first ones greeting me as I turn to walk up my steps. I honestly never knew that I would enjoy flowers as much as I have been! I feel like they are my babies. When it was storming this weekend, I was terrified they'd get over watered or something stupid like that. But here I am, boring you to DEATH I'm sure about my hippie love for nature.

So, moral of the story.

I really liked the pics I took.

I really like my garden.

And I really think I want to take gardening more seriously... and do something I'll truly be proud of, and love to stare at more than this half beautiful-half-weed-hot-mess of a garden that I love so much.

I know it won't be easy. But somehow, this little garden I have so far gives me some type of hope...goodnight!

Tomorrow I am holding my very first in-person Vintage Clothing sale at the Gaithersburg Indoor Flea Market, located at the Montgomery County Maryland fairgrounds, from 9 am - 1pm.

For those that don't already know, just cuz I say vintage, doesn't mean it's your grandmas clothes that you'll be looking at. I generally find modern style vintage clothes that just have an overall better quality, better colors, and unique styles. Often times, I am wearing something vintage, and I will always get asked where I got the item from. So come check it out! I guarantee there will be something for everyone! I will be also selling jewelry, other gently used clothes, accessories, and various other items, so I hope to see you there!

When I saw these pants on the rack, I knew I was in love. The anticipation of pulling them out and looking them up and down to see if they were oddly shaped, too long, too wide was all swept away by perfection. I got quite a few, "where did you get those?," and I replied that they were thrifted, and vintage. Love!

I wore two belts:

abercrombie and fitch jean jacket- thrifted, ($5)

white tee- f21 ($8)

gray and blue striped cardi- thrifted ($10)

yellow pants- vintage, thrifted ($4)

Thus, today was one of those happy days where I am pleased with my overall look, which puts me in a good mood. Actually, one of those days where I'm over-pleased.

Tomorrow is Friday, I hoping I have a great productive day both at work and at home. I gotta get my vintage clothes ready for the sale Saturday!!

Quarter Life Crisis

I decided yesterday I was doing this hair style, chopping my hair half off. Shaving it. Everyone told me no but I just had to do it for me because, well cuz I wanted to! I especially liked the fact I could cover it up. I guess I needed a change.

I accidentally never uploaded last Friday, or maybe Thursday(?)'s outfits. So after I took pics of today's, I uploaded them and saw I never shared one of my proudest outfits. It's nothing special, but I was just really pleased the way it all turned out- from me finding a skirt I was looking for, to my make-up, to the mixture of colors and accessories. It's rare that I love how I have my accessories- I feel like I need more. But anyway, here they are:

I just realized, I don't really note when things I'm wearing are vintage. So from now on, I'm going to. Especially because I will be selling vintage clothes, and I feel that people automatically think, 'I don't think I'll like vintage, I'm not that type of person,' but people have no idea how cute cuts, nice patterns, and better quality is what vintage clothes offer. And best of all, you will be able to pull it off and somehow modernize the outfit. Trust me, I could find you something you'd like.

p.s. Wow, I look super blonde in these pics...for those who don't know, I loved dark hair (and with passion)...I slowly continued getting more and more blonde highlights, along with low-lights and medium brown under layer, and I am happy with it.
